What is sound art?

Develop a sound art piece (1min minimum) as if you are sculpting from a material. Create a sound file (.mp3) by using three sources of the following samples:

• sound recording using your system audio
• audio that you have recorded yourself — field recording from a setting, your voice, etc.
• include 5 unique effects

Consider the following when choosing your samples:

Timbre - The tone or texture of your sample (e.g: a trumpet has a bright or harsh timbre, a flute a gentle timbre)

Tone - How low or high pitched it is. The amount of low, mid, or high frequencies present

Transients - How percussive or explosive the sound is (e.g: a clap has a sharp transient, humming has a soft transient)

When conceptualizing how to modify your piece, you can think about sound in terms of color or texture like you might think of paint on a canvas. What color do you want to evoke with certain combinations of timbre, tone, and transients? What about its texture?
